Well, I have to thank the Max & Ermas for their wonderful staff, and how well they treated us. Excellent food.
We mailed out 437 brochures with the coupon in it, 85 came back undeliverable, I had expected more, so I am happy with that. But I counted only 22 people who came that I recognized, there may have been more, but they didn't stop to say hi at our information table.
I really appreciate the support of the community. Without it, the shelter cannot survive, but we need to get more people involved. Not always the same 5 or 10. I am not just talking about money, but donations of your time and effort.
They say, it takes a village to raise a child, and that is true. It takes a community to help any shelter grow and thrive. Without you, there is no hope.
I want to post donations made, to encourage people to help, to encourage foundations to write grants, but on the other hand, I am afraid, afraid that people will see, oh, well someone else is taking care of it I don't have to. Someone else is helping, I don't have to.
All shelters need help, donations, volunteers, you name it. ALL shelters need you. If you choose not to support a ferret shelter, that is fine, ferrets are not for all people, but get involved, get involved with a dog, or cat shelter, get involved with a group that helps homeless people, or help at the hunger centers. How about helping or visiting the elderly? Become a big brother or big sister, spend time at the run away shelter, lend an ear to a troubled teen, maybe you can show them there is a way to stay straight, in school, and go to college. Maybe you can be an inspiration to them.
Your community needs you. Get involved. We all complain about things that bother us. Get involved, help change it. Give two or three hours of yourself a month to make things change. That isn't much. And it can make such a big difference!!
The only way to stop humanity's drop into extinction is to care, to get involved, to do something to help, to stop being apathetic, to stop pretending we cannot make a difference, because WE CAN!!
Help the ferrets, help the dogs, help the cats, help the humans, help the environment. It doesn't matter what you do, JUST DO SOMETHING!!
Ok, now I am off my soap box, and going to finish litter boxes.
I just got the call from Max & Ermas. The total from the ferret people is $525.00, we get 20% of that, or $104.00. Hey, that isn't too bad, next time it will be better. We need folks to help get the word out.
Thanks to all who stopped to help.
