The coffee "pounds for paws" is great.

Just remember, every little bit helps, if 200 donated $2.00 each, that would be $400 and enough to pay for two adrenal surgeries, or have us 3/4 of the way to purchasing lupron.

Please help.

A View of Frustration

Ok, I have no idea if this will work, and I really wish I could remember what I had written last night.

The shelter is over crowded. We need help. We need adoptions. The problem is every shelter out there is in need. Big political years, means higher turn ins, lower adoptions, and donations end up not coming in. This year is no exception. This year it is worse. You have the shelters that have been hit by the hurricanes. This year just is bad news.

I just spent two days at PetsMart taking part in their adoptathon. I used to go to those things a lot, and make sure at least I was at one PetsMart a month from the west side to the east side. This weekend reminded me of why I stopped.People are rude. Therre are nasty comments, people who think they should get a ferret for free. The comments are like: Hey, you get free vet care, so why not give them away? (Hmm, hey did someone tell the vet they shouldn't charge the shelter? I guess I shouldn't have spent nearly $2800 at the vet's so far this year, huh? Or : Oh they smell. Gee, the ferrets that were at the event had just been bathed, with my shampoo that smells like grey flannel. The cage had been scrubbed and disinfected, all the linens in the cage were brand new, just made by me. The litter clean, the water fresh, the food fresh, but some how the guy could smell them 4 feet from the table.

Never mind the people who look down their noses at you because you have a ferret shelter.

We have 47 ferrets here. Five of them are less than one year old. Fifteen of them range in age from one to three years old. Seventeen range in the hardest to adopt the four year old to five year old range. People are afraid they will die right away. And the impossible to adopt ten in the group of six years old and up.Of the 47, eight need adrenal surgery and or lupron. We have one girl here with a botched spay, and one that needs a small tumor removed from her paw.

It is difficult, and my fund raising ideas, well are about, well let's just say if you sold sour milk you'd make more money as a fund raiser. My ideas seem great, but end up costing and not even breaking even. Let's hope Max & Erma's works out.
