Ferrets Unlimited Rescue Services

Ferrets Unlimited Rescue Services is at capacity. We are not taking any new ferrets in at this time unless you have adopted from us. We are sorry for the inconvenience and we hope to be able to reverse this soon.

You may fill out our surrender application but you WILL be placed on a waiting list. If you need to surrender your ferret(s) in a timely manner, please read below for tips on rehoming your ferret. Please note that some of these options may not be ideal, though they may be the only option for you.

FURS has been overwhelmed with “stray ferrets” this year. This is due to individuals letting their ferret(s) go outside thinking they can survive. They CANNOT! Ferrets are domesticated animals, they cannot fend for themselves. Sending them out is a death sentence. We have rescued 7 strays since January. There have been many more who have not been so lucky.

Please remember that even though FURS may not be able to accept your ferret(s) right away. We are always here to help where we can. If you have further questions feel free to contact us.

Thank you,

FURS Board of Directors

Tips to rehome your ferret(s)

Friends And Family:

Have you asked all your friends, family and coworkers? Many times people assume that no one they know would be interested in a ferret. Many times they are wrong. If you ask around, you may be able to find someone who is looking for a new addition to their family. If a long term commitment is hard to come by, you may try asking friends and family if they would be willing to keep them until a new home is found.

*Always remember, if someone is not ferret knowledgeable they can always call us. We legally cannot give medical advice but we can guide anyone to a vet for help, give advice on cages, toys, and overall basic ferret care.

Networking On Social Media:

Facebook is a great tool for rehoming pets. We always recommend it over Craigslist because there is a personal touch to it. You are asking friends and family yet again, the difference is THEY can ask THEIR friends and family and so on. Facebook sharing is a powerful thing. You can add pictures and even video to enhance your ferret(s) overall cuteness. There are also several Facebook pages dedicated to rehoming pets, even ferrets specifically.

Other Ferret Rescues:

There is a complete list of ferret shelters at https://ferretshelters.org/

The local Animal Protective League:

Some APL facilities do accept ferrets. Many ferrets have been adopted into loving homes from the APL.
